Seasonal Information

Warm Weather is Here
Warmer weather is finally here! From pool parties and backyard barbecues to camping trips and exploring the trails, it’s a great time for the whole family to enjoy the outdoors – and that includes our furry family members! Just as we prepare for the summer with sunscreen and bug spray, there are a number of ways to make sure our pets stay safe during the warmer months.

Keep it cool!
Avoid walks during the peak hours of high heat and humidity, which can cause foot pad injuries such as burns, blisters, punctures, and lacerations. Be aware of signs of heat exhaustion such as heavy panting, thick drool, or shaky legs. Remember: IT IS TOO HOT FOR YOUR DOG BEFORE ITS TOO HOT FOR YOU!!!

Never leave pets unattended in a vehicle.
Even when the windows are cracked, the temperature inside of a car can rise by 19°F in as little as seven minutes.

Take precautions with water activities.
Always make sure that your dog has supervision while in OR NEAR swimming pools or natural bodies of water. TAKE THE TIME TO TEACH YOUR DOG HOW TO FIND THE STAIRS AND GET OUT OF THE POOL.

Resist the urge to share food with your pets!
Although it’s tempting to share scraps, leftover food from the grill can be rich and fatty, causing gastrointestinal discomfort.

Be careful of garden hazards
including toxic plants such as azaleas and lilies, and harmful chemicals from fertilizers and insect repellants.

Remember – if you suspect that your pet is having a medical emergency, please call us right away.
